Battle and Brotherhood is a proposed artistic, multimedia installation that incorporates physical artwork, audio narration and animation to explore notions of power, status, global conflict and history, all through the lens of brotherhood and battle, as experienced by Mario and Luigi and the Player 1/Player 2’ experience.

The installation draws on gaming history, contrasting a well-known game mechanic – the ‘Player 1/Player 2’ experience’ – against the experience of political, philosophical and cultural difference

The theme of the installation is generally about the power dynamics in any partnership, particularly a competitive partnership. Through the prism of brotherhood, illustrated by Mario and Luigi, we explore notions of status, trust, ego, and conflict.

Large banners serve as a prominent, immediate visual articulation of the Battle and Brotherhood theme, with the two brothers represented as powerful, opposing figures in constructivist style propaganda.

This is a virtual tour of my exhibition project, currently in development for the IRL Festival, a merging of interactive art and narrative, running in May of 2015.

My contribution will center on a fictional history of the Mario Brothers, pitted against one another in a war of ideals.

The exhibit will feature, an Interactive Documenary, delivered via touch screens, large displays and directional speakers. It will also feature works of art ranging from hand crafted models of wartime artefacts, to a series of propaganda posters, reflecting our own historical use of art as a vessel for a message.
